Steve helped me with long-standing anxiety issues that were affecting my performance and enjoyment of golf.

His patient questioning and ability to listen to what I was saying- and sometimes not saying - helped me to recognise waysI was inhibiting my own performance. We worked in strategies for managing my feelings of anxiety, allowing more freedom and enjoyment of the game.

Steve helped me see revision differently and find the best revision technique to use that suits me. He also made revision much less stressful for me and to look at it in a more strategic and methodological manner.

Performance Psychology recognises that success depends upon so much more than knowledge, technique and skill. Issues such as limiting beliefs, anxiety, attentional focus, learning styles, phobias, poor problem-solving, rehearsal, practice and emotional control all have a huge part to play. And the baggage that can get in the way of the speech, the exam, the drive, the big game, the moment of truth can lie way outside the field of action. Proven techniques of psychological intervention can make a massive difference.

Great performance is one of the most satisfying things we can achieve whether that can be in sport, education, work, or any other activity. It can offer us a deep sense of well-being and achievement. In the end, it is not about gaining a merit, a medal or an award but the sense of surpassing your expectations that drives you.

In my career as a performance psychologist, I have,

  • Helped others deliver great performances all over the world, in business, leadership, sport and art.

  • Developed the idea of the ‘Performance Equation’ that recognised that performance required much more than technical skills but should address the fully aspects of mindset and opportunity. (most coaches only deal with the technical stuff)

  • Created the model of the ‘performance cycle’ - which shows the flow between preparation - rehearsal - performance and forward review.
